Today I spent some time reading Mimi Kirchner's Blog again. She has a wonderful new doll: Autumn. She's wonderful and Mimi said she's 100% happy with this doll. I'll be 100% happy with any of her dolls.
I just love Mimi's dolls. I found her galleries of pictures while looking for Vintage dolls, and thought: These are the dolls that I want to make. They have the charm of old dolls, but they are absolutely contemporanean. I just can picture them in a couple of decades as real classics.
I printed many of those pictures and put them in a binder. I made my very own Mimi Kirchner's Book. I keep going back to my book. I write her an email asking her if she sold patterns. Always scare of making my own. She wrote back telling me that she didn't. I went back to my book and... created my first ever pattern. That doll is not as good as Mimi's, but she inspired me to try it.
Later I found her blog. Well that was more than eye candy. It was her creative process, her trials and errors, her lessons, her thoughts... I highly recomend reading it from the beginning. This is a quote of her blog:
Once I started, everything else dropped away. I love the 3-d, the materials, the high level of craftsmanship that has grown for me. I love turning a flat piece of fabric into something with life! Every figure has it's own set of problems that need to be worked out, so there are constant challenges. Plus, I collect stuff- and everything I've saved over the years can be used with the dolls. It seems to incorporate everything I am interested in, inspired by and curious about.
I hope that after reading this you visit her.
